My Grandmother Says... introduces readers aged 5-7 to snow leopards and the other animals of the high mountain ecosystem. The book’s author, Jemima Sherpa, is a teenage writer with a great interest in conservation issues. She was born in Khumjung, and grew up at the feet of mountains such as Everest and Cho Oyu. While writing My Grandmother Says... Jemima drew inspiration from her childhood connection with the Himalaya.
Sanjib Rana is a young, self-taught artist, who specialises in painting birds. My Grandmother Says... is his first book illustrating job, and he found it very challenging and exciting. In order to learn more about how the snow leopard moves, Sanjib visited to the Kathmandu Zoo to sketch a spotted leopard. He also used both his wife and daughter as models for the pictures of people.
Rabin Nepali, who wrote Pasang and the Sheep Thief, and Jemima Sherpa both wrote their stories after a one day workshop which introduced writing techniques and information about the snow leopard.
Produced as a joint project of Ramailo Kitaab, the Snow Leopard Conservancy and the International Snow Leopard Trust.
My Grandmother Says... has been translated in to Tibetan and Chinese. Read all about it.
