Students of the Jane Goodall Environmental Magnet School designed mandalas to “create a
visual map” of their world view to share with the students at the Moravian Mission School. The mandalas are intended
to show the relationships between the student’s personal interests, and their concern for global issues. The mandala
begins with three nesting squares; the innermost “myself”, the next is “family and friends,” and the
third is “school.” Outside of the third square are four segments of a circle; each segment represents a global
issue or concern. In the narrow circle, students indicate possible solutions for the issues and concerns. The wide circle
shows what the world will be like when the problems are solved.
